2025 APA California & CPF Board Elections

APA California and the California Planning Foundation (CPF) invite you to join our boards in 2025!

We are seeking engaged and committed members to serve in key leadership positions that impact our profession and support fellow planners in an ever changing field. These Board positions all support our intentional work to engage a broader range of members and future members, while leveraging and building your professional networks and skills. Opportunity to Serve on the CPF Board

The mission of the California Planning Foundation (CPF), an APA California affiliate, is to award scholarships to planning students who excel in their studies and to further the professional practice of planning in California. Do you have a desire to contribute to the success of planning students and professionals?  Then CPF is looking for you! Two seats are available for four-year terms.

Eligibility

Elected officers must be members in good standing of APA. Membership in AICP is desirable. Chapter-Only members may hold any Chapter elected office except President-Elect/President, Vice President for Administration,  Vice President for Conferences, and Vice President for Professional Development. Commitment

The Chapter Board meets four times per year. In-person Board meetings are held in late January (including a Board retreat) and on the day prior to the start of the Chapter Conference. Two additional online Board meetings are held in late May and late December, generally on Friday afternoons. Elected officers are members of the Executive Committee, which holds a monthly one-hour online meeting, currently 3rd Fridays from 12-1 PM. Board members are asked to invest time as needed to carry out the duties of their position, outlined below.

Service on the APA California Board does not include a financial commitment. When travel is required to attend in-person Board meetings, expenses are reimbursed.

How to Apply

Members are invited to submit their interest by 5 PM on July 19. Application packets consisting of the following documents should be emailed to [email protected] .

  • An Interest & Eligibility Form
  • A resume
  • A position statement of no more than 600 words, reflecting the following:
    • Focus on issues that impact the organization, its future, and the services it provides to members and the profession
    • Focus on your qualifications, leadership, and skills specific to the position for which you are running
    • Ensure that all stated facts can be independently verified, if needed
    • Use full sentences or a bulleted list, as appropriate

Elections Process & Schedule

A nominating committee will review submissions and interview interested members before they are slated as candidates for election. The committee will select at least one qualified candidate for each office; those not selected may pursue candidacy through petition.   • Application packets due: July 19
  • Nominating committee interviews: Week of July 29
  • Slate determined: No later than August 5
  • Voting open: September 27-October 1
  • Results announced: by October 23
  • Onboarding conducted: November – December
  • New board members attend December board meeting: December 13
  • Terms begin: January 1, 2025
