We are excited to be growing our management and policy planning team and are seeking an entry-to-mid-level Project Associate to join our team of professionals in our Pasadena, CA office. MIG supports a hybrid work-from-home/remote and in-office schedule and encourages in-person work for learning and team-building opportunities. Responsibilities – What You’ll Be Doing at MIG • Equity-Centered Planning and Engagement: You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that focuses on policy and strategic planning, research and analysis, public outreach and information, facilitation and consensus building, and organizational development and training. • Collaborative Teammate: You will work as part of a supportive, cross-office, cross-discipline team that collaborates with organizations and communities of all sizes across the United States for public agencies, non-profits organizations, NGOs, and private-sector clients. • Project Work: You will support a team of planners, designers, and project managers in all aspects of project design and implementation, including support with community engagement and meeting design, preparation, logistics, and facilitation; research and analysis; technical and policy writing; creation of highly visual materials, reports, and/or summaries; content analysis; project administration; and client interaction. • Project Types: The range of projects you will work on is exciting and broad reaching, including organizational strategic and master plans, consensus building, training and visioning, organizational development, park and recreation planning, mobility and transportation planning, land use and natural resources planning, community engagement and outreach, strategic communications, and equity-centered research, assessment and analysis. MIG works on projects nationwide; some travel, evening, and weekend work will be required for community engagement, site evaluations, client meetings, or to meet deadlines. Experience and Qualifications for Success – What We’d Like to See To accomplish these responsibilities, you will be able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, think critically and creatively, work as part of a collaborative team in an open environment, and maintain a sense of humor and camaraderie. In addition, you are expected to have some combination of the following qualifications: • A Bachelor’s degree in planning, public policy, or a related field. (A Master’s degree in one of these or a complementary field is a plus.) • Relevant work experience (internships OK) in planning, policy, community engagement, or a closely related field with an understanding of and commitment to quality, inclusive, community centered planning. • Ability to produce high-quality work products, including but not limited to graphics, charts, maps, and other presentation materials. • Excellent skills in research, writing, analysis, document presentation, and written and verbal communication. Graphic design proficiencies are a plus. • You have demonstrated experience in equity-centered work and community engagement and strategies including: a track record in applying an equity lens to plans, processes and practices; working to eliminate institutional and structural racism and its intersections with other forms of oppression including sexism, heterosexism, classism and ableism. • Interest in the intersection of design, planning, and equity and an ability to develop collaborative, productive, and respectful relationships with community members, organizations, and partners. MIG values and respects both lived experience as part of a non-dominant group (e.g., gender identity, sexual orientation, race and ethnicity, ability, etc.) and experience gained through study and work. We strongly believe in building a team that authentically represents the diversity and backgrounds of the communities we work with. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience. This is a full-time, hourly position with eligibility for overtime pay. The pay range for this position is $28-39/hour, commensurate with skills and experience.
