Job Description
Senior Planner Annual Salary: $118,354 - $159,778 (DOQ) Closing Date: July 14, 2024The Senior Planner will focus on long-range planning and will play a vital role in new policy efforts to revise General Plan Elements and components of the City’s land use policy framework, updates to objective design standards for multifamily zoning, assist with Zoning Code Amendments, analyze legislation and policies, advise on planning and development issues, and supervise, assist, and mentor staff.
The ideal candidate can hit the ground running and blend their technical abilities with visionary leadership, political acumen, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills while demonstrating a passion for enjoying their work. To succeed in the position, an individual must be able to solve complex issues, ensuring that every facet of a project aligns with the Town’s established procedures and local and State regulations. Someone who is nimble and pivot when needed, identify, and implement innovative solutions, develop and present sound and responsive recommendations, lead and inspire a team, and successfully manage projects is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in city, urban, or environmental planning, architecture, or a field related to the area of assignment, and seven years of planning-related experience, which must have included two years of project management or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above. Master’s degree preferred. Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners. Must possess and maintain a valid California class C driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.US Citizenship Required?

CalPERS Retirement - New employees with no prior CalPERS service or have a break in CalPERS service of 6 months or more: 2% @ 62. Employees are required by law to pay 50% of the normal cost, or 6.5%. - New employees who are classic CalPERS member and did not have a break in service for more than 6 months: 2% @ 60. Employees are responsible for CalPERS member contribution, currently set at 7.0%. Health Insurance – Town provides a generous flexible spending allowance to employees at a rate that currently covers up to the Kaiser premium cost. Dental Insurance – Town paid insurance through Assurant Employee Benefits for employee and eligible dependents. Vision Insurance – Town paid insurance through VSP for employee and eligible dependents.
